Singer Ryan Cabrera now making his own reality
Why is Ryan Cabrera heading back to MTV?
“I got my own
show,” says the 22-year-old rock heartthrob, who was introduced to audiences on MTV last year as Ashlee Simpson’s on-again, off-again boyfriend.
Cabrera will begin taping episodes of the new dating game Score in coming months.
But the MTV show – which musically pits a pair of songwriters against each other for a chance at a dream date – is just the latest in a list of projects lined up for the singer-songwriter, whose performance tonight at the Wiltern LG will be filmed for an upcoming DVD release.
“I love to entertain and be in front of the camera,” says Cabrera, who ultimately aspires to careers in both music and acting.
Growing up in Dallas, Cabrera wanted to become an actor.

Live DVD, MTV ‘Score’ Update, & a New Album in the Works
For all the fans who weren’t able to make it out to any of Ryan’s shows on this leg of the tour, the upcoming show in Los Angeles, CA on March 31st at the Wiltern LG will be filmed for a live concert DVD.
MTV’s ‘Score’, the dating game show hosted by Ryan in which male contestants must write and perform a song with Josh, Ethan, Jordan, KC, and Taylor from Ryan’s band in front of a live audience to win a date, was recently picked up for ten episodes. Taping is estimated to take place within the next couple of months. For more information about ‘Score’, view the
January 2005 news archive.
Ryan is also currently taking a few days off from his busy tour schedule to write for an upcoming album which he hopes to release some time before the end of this year.

Filming for “40 Kinds of Sadness” Video Underway
The filming for the video for Ryan’s third single “40 Kinds of Sadness” off of his certified gold album
Take It All Away has gone underway. Tonight’s Indianapolis, IN show was filmed for the video in what can be expected to be a more raw look in to what Ryan does on a daily basis. In a recent interview, Ryan discussed the first concepts for the video:
“I think what were going to do for this video, is were going to do more, not like a set-up video… not where like were going to go to L.A. and shoot like an actual video like ”True." I think this one we’re just going to have a lot of live footage. And then a bunch of behind the scenes stuff of what its like with us backstage, and what its like on a day of Ryan Cabrera. And then me running around on the streets, doing a bunch of just crazy, dumb stuff. Ya know because that’s kind of the fun stuff to see, just random stuff. So I am not really sure what the final thing is going to be, but its gonna be like a home video kind of thing, but recorded now, ya know. So like just us on the streets just doing fun stuff with like me running around to people with my guitar or something, so we’ll see."

Not Your Typical Pop Idol
Hanging out with singer Ryan Cabrera is like hanging out with an old friend. Though his album, Take It All Away, has been certified gold, it doesn’t seem like success has gone to his head.
He still gets excited when he talks about his tour bus or when his first single, On the Way Down, became a cell-phone ring tone.
He’ll tell you about his love for chocolate chip cookies - “No joke, chocolate chip! . . . The fans know that so they bring you cookies and I always get sick (from eating too many)” - or how his parents felt about him pursuing his pop-rock music career.
“Still to this day they ask, ”Are you ever going to get a job?' and I say “I’m fine.'”
You bet he’s fine. The 22-year-old with the spiky blond hair, who just kicked off a spring concert tour at the House of Blues in Orlando, remains amazed at his own success.

Cabrera Gives a Lively Treat
Ryan Cabrera and his hair made 2,000 new best friends Friday night at Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre.
The 22-year-old Texan declared so himself after he spotted just about everybody in the crowd up and moving as soon as he and his five-piece band charged their way into the pop ‘n’ roll that’s made Cabrera a quick radio-single favorite.
“I’m very, very happy,” Cabrera told the crowd. “Everybody’s standing up already. That’s one down. I already think a lot of Syracuse.”
Cabrera’s Central New York fans obviously thought a lot of him, too. They showed their devotion by waving carefully handcrafted signs offering compliments or their affection.
“Well done,” Cabrera declared to one girl thrusting her art-heart high.
The 1,800 or so teenage girls in the crowd obviously were taken with Cabrera’s good looks, terrific voice and pop culture star status.
The 200 or so boyfriends or parents in the crowd were won over by his charisma and friendly demeanor.
Who doesn’t smile along with a guy who can tell the world about the time his older brother gave him a wedgie so tight his arms were jammed immovable by the leg holes of his tighty whities?
